The ultra compact VA-5 pan head from Sirui (sue-ray) is the perfect backcountry head to use with larger spotting scopes (65mm and up). With maximum load capacity of up to 6.6 lbs it is the ideal fluid video head for use with high end spotting scopes, DSLR system cameras, and camcorders. With its advanced fluid system, it allows for a soft, quiet and vibration-free pan and tilt when glassing those high country bucks.
The tilt friction can be adjusted continuously while the rotary pan motion friction is fixed. A spring loaded counter balance allows the head to hold its position without lock down in most instances. The head is extremely smooth and allows for very precise adjustments to be made and is intuitive to use. The Safety Lock system prevents accidental removal of the release plate. The head comes with 1 Arca Swiss sliding adapter plate to allow proper balance.

This was purchased at the recommendation of S & S to go along with my Slik tripod. This is a first for me but I am impressed how well this head pans and adjusts vertically with my 4+ # spotting scope.
I ave not had this in the field yet however it has worked flawlessly on my deck.
Knowledgeable sales staff, friendly, reasonable pricing and fast shipping.
This is the most solid and stable tripod I have owned. The twist lock legs don't loosen up and stay sturdy during hours of glassing. Paired with the VA-5 Head the compact design and light weight is perfect for back pack hunts. I don't think anything is perfect, but I would give this a solid 4.5 stars.
great head. simple to use, lightweight, sturdy, and super smooth. very nice for the backcountry
Just received it and haven't taken it out on a trip yet but after putting both my binos and my 85mm spotter on this head I can already tell it will be a gamechanger and major upgrade from my previous ball head.
My previous tripod had a ball mount, and this video head makes glassing so much easier. It’s solid and buttery smooth. I especially like the safety lock that prevents expensive equipment from accidentally falling out. The knob that locks the release plate can be A little difficult to disengage because it’s so close to the handle, but that’s just constructive feedback if S&S talks with Sirus.
