Kowa TSN-773 TSN-774 77mm Spotting Scope with 25-60x

Kowa TSN 770 Series Spotting Scope w/ TE-11wz 25-60x eyepiece

For the backcountry hunter, the tsn-770 spotting scope is the perfect balance between low light performance, weight and functionality. While the Kowa TSN 880 may be considered by many as the best scope you can buy, the TSN 770 is a close second. The size and compactness of a 60mm scope with the performance of a 80mm, and a price that makes it available to all.

The PROMINAR models TSN-773/774 have an XD objective lens with low dispersion properties to diminish chromatic aberration. The concave lens paired with the XD lens is made of glass with special dispersion properties to reduce the chromatic aberration to a further degree. The performance and compactness of these spotting scopes are second to no other scope in this class.

People often compare optics in reviews, and much of that is subjective depending on the users eye and use. It’s also hard to compare this scope to anything else. Size of a 60 class scope, oomph of an 80, fine focus, wide angle eyepiece. If those items appeal to you, there isn’t much else in this category. I got this scope last year and really enjoyed using it on my deer hunt. Rob at S&S is a pleasure to deal with and this is a screaming deal.

Kowa TSN-773

I spent more than a year researching spotting scopes for my specific hunting needs. Having used both cheap glass and not so cheap glass over decades of hunting, I wanted to be sure that this purchase would be one and done while meeting my expectations. Image quality was number one on my list. The birding and digiscoping community helped me understand that Kowa's image quality was top rated. Next on my list came magnification and objective size. I had talked to so many people that had wished they had more magnification and/or light transmission than what they had purchased but I also didn't want the size/weight to deter me from ever wanting to pack it on a hunt (the 25-60x wide angle lens with the 77m objective seamed to be the perfect compromise between the 65m and 85m models that I found most common in spotters). I also wanted a focus knob that was easy to use and give me fine adjustment. Kowa, specifically the 77 Series, kept moving to the front of the line based on all that criteria. Not being as prevalent as others in the hunting community, my biggest hurdle with Kowa was getting my hands on one to try it. I can't tell you how many other brands and models I was able to sneak peaks through while in the field, but never a Kowa. Being from the west side of Oregon, I couldn't even find a local retailer that stocked one so that I could at least put my hands on it. In the end I took a leap of faith and purchased the scope after many discussions with Rob of S&S Archery to fill in the few gaps of questions that I had. Rob was always quick to respond and extremely helpful. Rob also helped me get it at a great price by purchasing it at the right time to take advantage of sale pricing. In the end, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Kowa 77 scope

Love it so far. Much brighter than the 50mm kowa and a much better scope than the razor 60mm stuff

Awesome Optics

Recently purchased the TSN 773 from S and S during the big sale. I've always been interested in them as an avid wildlife enthusiast, outdoorsman, and digiscoper! I bought this while still owning the ATS65 with the wide angle lens. I've had them out together side by side. The ATS is a great scope, especially with the wide angle lens. But this Kowa was sharper. Easier to fine focus, let in more light which was expected with the larger objective, and overall the better scope. It is a tad bit heavier, and I'd prefer the coating on the ATS over the Kowa. But the Kowa won out. Selling the ATS. S and S was fast on the shipping, and they're great to work with. Very responsive in email and nice to talk to in their Boise store.
